Julie Cohn
Julie Cohn earned her B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of California at Berkeley, as well as,
a B.F.A. at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Watercolor painting and professional cartooning
are her specialities. A book she is presently writing explains her effective watercolor system and also features
some of her cartoons. Developing a line of greeting cards is another current project in progress. Her artwork,
which is sold internationally and featured in gallery and museum settings, covers a broad range of subjects and
styles.
Julie has been devoted to watercolor painting and teaching for the past 14 years. The watercolor portraits painted
by her mother, Barbara Cohn, were such an inspiration that Julie became enamored with capturing the true spirit
of people in this lively, spontaneous medium. Her unique approach to portraiture teaches step by step how to convey
the mood, personality and likeness of the model.
Julie has been cartooning professionally for many years. Her first attraction to it was through the form of party
caricature which she performed throughout the Bay Area. She is versatile in rendering and teaching many facits
of cartooning including, comic strips, greeting cards, educational cartoon illustration, political cartooning and
single panel cartoons.
Julie's hobbies include jazz singing, cooking, learning Spanish, doing tai chi, biking, swimming and reading. She
and her husband, Michael Chadwick, share many interests in the arts.
