 Marianna Goodheart
Marianna Goodheart came to live in California in 1966, having grown up in Buffalo, New York and graduated from
Cornell University and the California College of Arts and Craft. Most of her early work was in oil paint and pen
and ink. Later on she became fascinated with chalk pastels and has worked extensively in that medium researching
its history, making her own chalks and teaching pastel classes. In the late 80's she also started working in three
dimensions and has now developed a body of sculpture in fabricated steel. The directness of the chalks and the
directness of working with metal is very related for her.
This sense of touch extends to all the things Marianna likes to do such as, hiking, cooking, gardening, reading,
music and being with her family.
