Alexander Vereshagin

Alexander Vereshagin was educated at the Glinka Capella and St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia, where he taught conducting from 1980 to 1991. He had the privilege of conducting many of Russia's finest orchestras, performing, touring and recording with them. During this same period of time, he was Chairman of the Leningrad Musical Society; directed master classes for selected Russian composers; acted as consultant to music institutions organizing educational programs; and published two books.

After immigrating to the United States in 1992, he founded the Russian Chamber Orchestra. In January, 1995, he began teaching Russian music at the College of Marin; thus, continuing to pursue his life's foremost goals and greatest pleasures - to conduct and teach. In the same way, though he plays and teaches piano professionally, he does so for pleasure as well.

Other enjoyable activities are time spent with his family; walks with his wife in Golden Gate Park; playing soccer; and trips to Russia as visiting guest conductor to visit his relatives and friends.
